GMISS 1st Annual Awards Ceremony

Sheng-mou Hou (Minister of DOH ,Taiwan, R.O.C.) awarded Yi-you Huang (GMISS Program Director) the medal to honor the GMISS achievements in 2005.
The Global Medical Instruments Support & Service Program, GMISS, is a new plan set up by the Department of Health, Taiwan, R.O.C, in May 2005. The GMISS Program designed a questionnaire and conducted its first survey among medical centers and hospitals in Taiwan in May to investigate their views on the program and to advertise the program. The survey generated a warm response, followed by eager donations from many of the hospitals. To date, the program has accomplished four donations successfully, as follows:
1. The National Taiwan University Hospital donated an ECG machine and an anesthesia unit to Ecuador.
2. A donation was made to the Republic of Honduras of one light source gastroscope given by the Kaohsiung Municipal Hospital and one bronchoscope given by the National Taiwan University Hospital.
3. A donation was made to the Republic of Ghana of one X-ray film copy unit and one hospital bed given by the Chia-yi Christian Hospital, one Gyn./Obs. diagnostic table and one ENT chair given by the Changhua Christian Hospital, and two X-ray viewboxes given by the Cheng Hsin Rehabilitation Medical Center.
4. A donation was made to the Republic of El Salvador of two hospital beds and various medical appliances given by the Chia-yi Christian Hospital, one sigmoidoscope given by the Changhua Christian Hospital, and three X-ray viewboxes given by the Cheng Hsin Rehabilitation Medical Center.
The GMISS Program also assists in the evaluation and recommendation of various donations, such as the donations for Mongolia, Rumania, Tuvalu, and Polivying. By means of professional evaluation of the benefits and suitability of the donations, the donations would be more meaningful and effective.
In order to honor domestic hospitals in appreciation of their donations, the GMISS Program held a ceremony in the Auditorium of the Department of Health (on 15th floor) on December 22nd, 2005. In addition to domestic hospitals, ambassadors of the recipient countries and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were invited to attend the ceremony. The event also can promote the supply and demand functions on the GMISS website, through which the strength of the program can be maximized and its compassionate spirit and goodwill of helping people can attain a wider outreach.
